Dorothy's final farewell
On the home stretch, we witnessed a road accident that had just happened;the dust from the skid was still thick in the air as we slowed down to take a closer look. We were just the three girls in the car and we were afraid of the mugging at the site of the accident. Karol wanted to stop and offer help, and as we slowed down to a stop, we saw people running from across the road to the scene. Karol...
Dorothy's final farewell
Our flight to Nairobi was uneventful and very long, a total travel time of over 26 hours. From Austin after dropping off Amani at daycare, the flight was delayed by two hours ( due to lack of enough passengers- my guess) and then on to Atlanta. The Atlanta airport is quite huge for those who are not familiar with it…it has a subway train service to transport passengers to different sections...

They're home!
Stella and Amani arrived at Boston’s Logan International Airport (wearily) last night! Their plane touched down at around 9:15, and they cleared customs about 10:30. Amani initially seemed a little shell-shocked from all the attention — or maybe he was just sleepy — but he was babbling away before too long. It was heart-warming to hear him say “Daddy!” a few times! ...
Stella's and Amani's final hours in Nairobi
Just had a quick chat with Stella and Amani on what is their final day in Kenya. They were hanging out by the pool at the Roasters. Some notes on Amani: Amani has four new teeth, and so he’s been teething. Stella says Amani’s language development continues to come along. He’s started calling a couple of his cousins by name - “ayo” for Ryo (Ryan) and some combination...
on the last week in Nairobi
I meant to put up the follow-up story sooner, but I guess now is a good time as any other. Where was I? Our visit to Karol’s plush flat….after getting past the guards at the gate, Traqysha and her mother met us at the front steps. Amani and Traqysha had fun pushing and getting into the toy truck, then building puzzles with me and playing in the sand pit. We had a leisurely walk around the complex...
Monday conversation with Stella
Had a chance to chat with Stella for a bit early Monday afternoon. She and Amani are spending their final week in Nairobi. They fly out Saturday night, spend most of Sunday in London, and then land at Logan just before 10:00 on Sunday night. Some notes from our call: Stella, her brother Lawrence, and the kids spent two days in Meru last week, and Stella was able to see her dad. We didn’t...
In Nairobi so far
It is only the end of the second week, and we feel like we have been here for months. I want to restart the clock to the date we landed in Nairobi. The nightmare of flying with an infant cannot be overdramatized. After a lot of drama about getting into the BA flight due to an expired passport, we were the last passengers to board out of Boston. The kind lady seated next to us offered to move to a...
Amani says "hi" to Daddy on phone!
Just spoke to Stella for about 15 minutes (12:50-1:10pm, my time). She says she and Amani are have a nice, relaxing time in Nairobi. Amani’s not fighting as much with his cousins - Natasha (2 1/2) and Max (a few months younger than Amani) — and he seems to like playing in the puddles (Stella says she has to change him a few times every morning because of this). Amani’s...
we made it okay
Amani and I have been recovering from the long flight. The first night here, we had a hard time falling asleep, almost after 3am our time. And then the Cock crowed waking us up and keep Amani upset for a while. We took many pictures on the second day, which I will post tomorrow. today, we drove to the Nyayo house and were met with issues about passport application, and the yellow fever vax was...
They made it!
Here’s the text I got from Stella’s sister-in-law Dorothy on Sunday afternoon: “W r hme. changing amanis diaper!” Can’t wait to hear more. —Bryan
